You are bidding on an amazing old 4/4 violin, labeled "Augustinus Chappuy ... Fecit Anno 1770". Condition: Some tears and wears to original golden amber varnish, old repaired cracks on top Description: Good quality high grained spruce was chosen for the top, and the maple of the one piece back with beautiful grain is strongly flamed. Matched sides, neck and scroll. The purfling is a tasteful work of good craftsmanship, just as the shining, golden amber varnish. New boxwood set up. The whole length of the violin is 600 mm and the back 362 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 167 mm; middle bouts: 112 mm; lower bouts: 209 mm. Full size.
