Two sets of antique set of scales with weights in one case. To begin with the smaller set, these are, as far as we are aware, very rare, fashioned from brass they have two weights which fit into the base and they stand 8.8cm (3.5") high, they appear as a toy but would most certainly have a had an important practical purpose. The larger set has a steel bar and brass chains and pans, designed to be held, or suspended from a fixed point, they come with three small brass weights marked '2', '3' and '4' (drachms). The case still has the original label, 'Lloyd & Son, Pharmaceutical Chemists, 1 Old Palace Terrace, Richmond. Established 1826' and a later stamp with a telephone number from which we can deduce that these scales were made around the end of the 19th century.
