Wonderful oil painting by German Grobe (1857-1938), unsigned. Oil on canvas, glued to wood. Nameplate on the frame, old inventory sticker (presumably from a dealer) on the reverse. The work was probably trimmed when it was glued to the wooden panel, which is why the signature is missing. Around 1900. View of a harbor entrance in rough seas. Size: 57 cm x 48 cm with frame; 42 cm x 34 cm without. Works by German Grobe have already been offered at auction several times. The record price for this artist at auction since 1999 is 22,613 USD for "Anchoring the Bomschuit", which was sold at Christie's in Amsterdam in 2006.
