'Shoshun no zu' 初春之図 (Early Spring) - From "Imayo junikagetsu" 今様十二ヶ月 (Twelve months au courant) - Utagawa Toyokuni (1769-1825) - Japon

Original woodblock print (2) - Washi Paper - Utagawa Toyokuni I (1769-1825) - 'i' (... Month) - From "Imayo junikagetsu" 今様十二ヶ月 (Twelve months au courant) - Japan - 1970s Uchiwa-e (fan print) were produced to be mounted as fans, so only limited number of works have survived today. Most of the surviving works are believed to be originally from sample books owned by fan sellers and tend to be in early impression and good condition. A different design from the same series is in the collection of the Edo Tokyo Museum, under number 91200305. In the 1970s Yuyudo published the series of 12 sets of 2 prints, called "Imayo junikagetsu" 今様十二ヶ月 (Twelve months au courant), after the designs by Toyokuni I. The lyrical designs are traditional images with a clever twist, sometimes with a kimono continuing onto the back panel, or a palanquin completed on the reverse side. Square kiwame-seal and date seal: 1822. Publisher's seal: Ibaya Senzaburo. Size is 25.5x 33.5cm, each sheet. On a Japanese washi paper, in a very good condition. Published by Yuyudo in the 1970s, with seal and details printed on back sheet. The prints were recut by Matsuda Torazo en printed by Endo Tadao. I used 2 scans to cover the complete size, pictures might show the copy/paste-lines. Will be sent acid-free protected, under heavy card-boards, fully insured.
