Two Prussian Awards WW-1 Period. "Black Wound" Badge ( Wound of 3 Degree) Medal " Torn Banners" Union Medal “Kyffhäuser”, established on June 18, 1921 by the German Society of War Veterans “Kyffhäuserbund”. The founding document stated: “Participants in the World War of 1914-1918 unanimously express their persistent desire to establish a badge in memory of the feat of arms of front-line soldiers, the faithful service of reservists and selfless work in the rear...”. The oval token measuring 31x47 mm and weighing about 15 grams was made of bronze and was awarded from December 1921 to April 1934. Based on the battle-worn flag depicted on its obverse on a pole with a pommel, it received the nickname “Torn Banners.” At the top of the obverse there is an inscription in three lines in Gothic script: “Blank die Wehr Rein die Ehr” (Weapons for battle with unblemished honor). On the left are the dates of the beginning and end of the Great War: “1914-1918”, at the bottom there are four lightning bolts, and at the very bottom is the name of the medalist in capital letters. On the reverse, in the center, is a quote from the national hero and honorary president of the Kyffhäuser Union, Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg, from his Army Order of November 12, 1918: “Aufrecht u. Stolz gehen wir aus dem Kampfe den wir über vier Jahre gegen eine Welt von Feinden bestanden. Hindenburg” (With honor and pride we leave the battlefield on which we defeated hordes of enemies for more than four years. Hindenburg). In the upper part there is an inscription in a semicircle: “Für Treue im Weltkriege” (For loyalty during the World War), in the lower part – “Der Kyffhäuserbund”.
