Une grande assiette creuse / bol chinois bleu et blanc 'Starburst' - Porcelaine - Chine - Période Diana Cargo (1817), Jiaqing (1796-1820, 嘉慶)

A big Chinese blue and white porcelain 'Starburst' pattern deep dish or shallow bowl. China, early 19th century, Jiaqing (1796-1820, 嘉慶) period. Rare item with a very good provenance! Dish decorated in underglaze blue on a white porcelain ground with a stylized chrysanthemum and conch shell motif often referred to as the starburst pattern. Four small sprays of greenery on the exterior. The base and foot rim are unglazed. Base with round sticker: CHRISTIE"S DAIAN CARGO MARCH 1995 / Lot 1276/48. ''The Diana'' was owned by Palmer and Co. a Calcutta ship owner and was licensed by the English East India Company to sail from Calcutta or Madras to Canton, carrying cotton and opium, which was extremely lucrative. The ship would then return to India from China, laden with silks, tea, preserved fruits and thousands of pieces of blue and white porcelain. The ship on the 14th of March 1817 hit rocks off the Straits of Malacca and sank. The wreck was identified and recovered in 1994 by Dorian Ball of Malaysian Historical Salvors. Christie's auctioned the porcelain cargo in Amsterdam in March 1995. Daylight and UV-light pictures included. Dimensions: diameter - 27,8 cm; height - 5,3 cm. Weight: 796 g. Provenance: Diana Cargo - 1817, sold in 1995, later private collection, Netherlands. Conditions report: bowl in very good condition considering the age history of the item. Three hardly visible hairlines from the edge (shown on pictures). Glaze in quite good condition. Minimal firing faults. Strong white light tested. Check pictures for details. Worldwide delivery with online tracking.
