Biography Totoki Baigai (1749-1804) Confucian scholar of the middle to late Edo period. Born in Osaka in 1749. His name is Gyo. Shaku. His stage names were Suenaga and shiwa. Nickname was Hanzo. Also known as Seimu-ken, Sekitei, Kotei and Tenrin-kaku. Studied Confucianism under Ito Tosyo. Studied calligraphy under Cho Tosai. Also studied painting under Minagawa Kien and Ike Taiga. He served the Nagashima clan in Ise (Mie Prefecture) and rebuilt the Bunreikan, a school of the clan. He excelled in calligraphy, painting, and seal-engraving. He died in Kyowa 4 at the age of 56.

Confucian scholar of the middle to late Edo period.
Born in Osaka in 1749.
His name is Gyo. Shaku.
His stage names were Suenaga and shiwa.
Nickname was Hanzo.
