A talisman item featuring a wooden carved old man mask.
This item has been serving as a protective wall hanging in the home of a Japanese author.
Mounted on a wooden board, it features a wooden carved old man mask, acting as a guardian to prevent evil spirits from entering the household.
In Japan, there's a belief that Yokai and Oni, akin to Western demons, can bring misfortune if they enter a residence. This wall hanging was specifically adorned to ward off such potential misfortunes.
The wooden board is inscribed with the production year, Taisho 3 (1914).
Condition:
Since it has been displayed for a long time, there are some scratches and signs of deterioration. However, there are no issues with displaying it for decorative purposes.
