A marked Japanese (Saga Prefecture) Arita blue and white octagonal tea caddy, Edo (1612-1868), 1st half 19th century, ca 10.5 cm. high, 9.5 cm. long and 6.5 cm. wide.
The sides decorated with diaper patterns around cartouches containing swimming Japanese mountain ducks near pines, the corners with silk worm-shaped diaper pattern, the topside and lid with so-called 'prunus on cracked ice', the lid with six-character mark within a rectangular cartouche, cracks (images #18-19) and firing discoloration (#20).
