H28cm Rare Vintage Kokeshi, signed by Sadao Kishi (1932-1998) - Wood - Japan - Shōwa period (1926-1989) artist: Sadao Kishi 岸貞夫 (1932-1998) Sadao Kishi was born in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, in 1932. He dedicated his life to creating hundreds of imaginative Kokeshi dolls until his passing. In 1950, he pioneered the creation of Sosaku Kokeshi. Throughout his career, Kishi earned numerous awards, including the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (METI). He played a significant role in the 'Sosaku Kokeshi Movement,' contributing to the recognition of these dolls as a popular and legitimate art form. In 1969, one of his pieces was acquired by The Crown Prince and Crown Princess. In 1970, Kishi devoted his work to the Enshrining Festival of the Meiji Shrine, representing the traditional crafts of his hometown. Dimensions : 28 × 9.5 × 9.5 cm Weight : 655 g Good condition.
