Giuseppe Vasi (1710-1782) - Chiesa di Santa Maria in Campo Carleo (Roma)

This is a very rare, beautiful, and detailed black-and-white etching of the Chiesa di Santa Maria in Campo Carleo in Rome. It was created by Giuseppe Vasi (1710-1782), a renowned neoclassical engraver, during the late 18th century. The etching captures the stunning architecture and design of the church, showcasing Vasi's exceptional skill and attention to detail. It is signed and titled on the plate's lower margin. The etching is from Vasi's "Delle Magnificence di Roma Antica e Moderna" edited in 1747. "Le Magnificenze di Roma Antica e Moderna" is the overall title Vasi gave to his ten books of etchings showing the monuments of Rome. The Magnificences provide a complete and unconventional panorama of the city, including celebrated shots taken from the best tradition of vedutistica and also an unusual Rome that no longer exists. The author worked on this work, of central importance in Roman publishing in the middle of the eighteenth century, for almost twenty years, producing a monumental guide to the "Urbe." The etching is in very good condition and is sold with its old, elegant wood frame decorated in imitation of green marble (a gift from the seller). The sheet measures mm. 280x410, and the etched plate is mm. 210x320. The frame measures cm. 34x47. Giuseppe Vasi (Corleone, 1710 - Rome, 1782) was an engraver, architect, and landscape artist. Between 1746 and 1761, Vasi published 10 volumes with 240 engravings of the monuments of Rome. Among his students was Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Vasi's goal was to represent the Rome of his time. Vasi studied architecture as well so that he was able to represent the monuments of Rome with precision and in much detail.
