A superb email-sur-biscuit large bisque porcelain group, measuring circa 32cm in length and weighing 3720g, depicting a mother taking her infant out of its cot while asking her other children not to wake up the baby. Fine work, great modeling and details. For example, a tripod gueridon stands behind the cot, the group rests on a leopard skin rug, the facial expressions are well painted. There is a heraldic crest on the woman´s chair, suggesting that the piece might have been commissioned by an aristocratic or noteworthy family. Marked to the underside with L&M maker´s mark of Letu & Mauger, Val d´Oise (nowadays Paris) impressed in the clay along with cipher 78, presumably denoting that 1878 was the date of manufacture. Condition: Overall very good, tip of one shoe chipped, no other damages or repairs observed. Minimal wear commensurate with age.
