The front-piece of an Edo period ‘russet iron’-lacquered dô (cuirass) adorned by a gold lacquered dragon crest 龍紋 (ryû’mon).
Dangae-type, meaning lit. “step-changing”, as it is a combination of two styles, the main smooth body is known as the hotoke-type, with kebiki-laced plates above.
Hanging from the cuirass is a 5-parts of 5-piece black lacquered ‘itazane’-plate kusazuri (tassets).
Around the waist a birque-coloured silk waistband (uwa’obi) with gold accents.
Dimensions:
Height dô 35 cm, incl. tassets 72 cm, Width 31 cm, Depth 21 cm.
Period: Japan – Edo period (1600-1868). Uwa’obi from a later date.
Considering its age, it is in a good condition with some wear conform age. Please have a look at the photos for a condition reference.
