John Coltrane - Blue Train / Blue Note Masterpiece - LP - Pressage japonais - 1967

John Coltrane – Blue Train The album was recorded amid Coltrane's residency at Five Spot as a member of the Thelonious Monk quartet. The collaborators include Coltrane's bandmates Miles Davis, Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums, both of whom had previously worked with pianist Kenny Drew. Both trumpeter Lee Morgan and trombonist Curtis Fuller were aspiring jazz musicians, and both became members of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in due course. All compositions were written by Coltrane except for the standard "I'm Old Fashioned". Although his compositions at this point used conventional diatonic harmonies, they were set in unconventional ways. Michael Cuscuna, the reissue producer at Blue Note, said of Joe Vella's Traneumentary podcast, "We're listening to Blue Train, which to me is one of the most beautiful tracks on one of the most beautiful records Coltrane recorded in the 1950s. In 2000 it was ranked number 339 on Colin Larkin's All Time Top 1000 Albums. He explained, "Coltrane may have made more important albums, but none swung as effectively as this one John Coltrane ‎– Blue Train Tracklist: A1 Blue Train A2 Moment's Notice B1 Locomotion B2 I'm Old Fashioned B3 Lazy Bird Bass – Paul Chambers Drums – "Philly" Joe Jones Piano – Kenny Drew Tenor Saxophone – John Coltrane Trombone – Curtis Fuller Trumpet – Lee Morgan Recorded on September 15, 1957.
