The crane and turtle design represents longevity.
An inkstone, known as "sumitsubo" in Japanese, is a traditional stationary item used primarily for storing ink. Typically made of ceramic or porcelain, it comes in cylindrical or square shapes. Traditional inkstones have lids, serving to dry and protect the ink. Additionally, many inkstones come with small sponges or brushes for scooping ink. These stationary items are essential tools in traditional Japanese arts such as calligraphy and painting.
Some of the ink pots used in important buildings are designated as Japanese national treasures.
