Miles Davis – The Greatest History 1955-1969 6 x Vinyl, LP, Compilation, Limited Edition During the period 1955 to 1969, Miles Davis experienced remarkable development as a musician and left an indelible mark on the history of jazz. During this era, Davis transformed from a prominent figure in bebop and cool jazz to a pioneer in modal jazz and fusion, constantly pushing the boundaries of the genre. Here are some key highlights from this time: 1.) Birth of the Cool (1949-1950): Although slightly ahead of the stated time frame, it is important to note Davis' involvement in the Birth of the Cool sessions. These recordings, made with a nonet with innovative arrangements by Gil Evans and others, helped lay the foundation for the cool jazz movement. 2.) 1955-1959: The Quintet Years: During this time, Davis led one of the most legendary quintets in jazz history, consisting of John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones (later replaced by Jimmy).
