The collection derives its name, "Collo alto" (Italian for 'long neck'), from the elongated and narrow shape of the segment connecting the handle to the active part of the cutlery. This design choice imparts a distinctive lightness to the cutlery, creating a visual play between curved and straight lines and harmoniously combining large and narrow volumes. The design journey of the entire cutlery set began with the creation of a risotto spoon in 2012, which served as the foundational inspiration for the subsequent pieces. The genesis of the ‘’Collo-Alto’’ cutlery project can be traced back to a competition organized by "Domus" magazine, celebrating the anniversary of the iconic Cucchiaio d'Argento recipe book that has graced Italian kitchens for over fifty years. The cutlery set reflects and expands upon the original features of Inga Sempé's risotto spoon design, notably the juxtaposition of curved and straight lines.
