The body of the drum is adorned with elaborate maki-e artwork, featuring wave patterns set against a rich black lacquered background with nashiji detailing. Maki-e is a traditional Japanese lacquer art technique that involves sprinkling gold or silver powder over wet lacquer to create designs. This method is renowned for its sophistication and the depth it adds to the artwork. Nashiji employs a similar method, using gold or silver flecks to achieve a pear skin-like texture, offering a unique shimmer and depth to the surface. The wave patterns depicted in the maki-e might symbolize power and resilience, commonly interpreted in Japanese art as embodying the strength and eternal nature of the sea—a theme often appreciated in various forms of traditional Japanese aesthetics. Please note, this item includes only the body of the drum, traditionally made from cherry wood, which is known for its durability and aesthetic appeal. This drum body shows signs of wear consistent with its age, including slight scratches, minor dents, small chips around the rims, fine cracks, and some repairs (areas turn white under black light), as detailed in the photos provided. Please review the photos carefully to assess the condition of this antique piece. Dimension: approx.
