Studio Zięta - Oskar Zięta - Tabouret - Acier

PLOPP Kitchen - Raw Steel Lacquered – unique piece in red colour - designed by Oskar Zięta Dimensions / Height: 65.00 cm / Width: 35.00 cm / Weight: 5.00 kg The PLOPP stool is a flagship of Zieta Studio and a symbol of Oskar Zięta’s research into the properties and possibilities of metal. The “Polish Air-Pumped Folk Object” proves how the artistic aspects of the design can be summarized in highly advanced engineering forms. Winner of the Red Dot Design Award 2008, the German Design Council Award 2008, and the Forum AID Award 2009. PLOPP is a manifesto of the FiDU technology and the “controlled loss of control” process. Two ultra-thin steel sheets are welded together around their edges and inflated under high pressure, deforming a 2.5D flat form into a 3D object. The iconic steel PLOPP stool is a flagship product under the Zieta brand in many of its finishes and sizes. In today’s range, we find PLOPP mini, standard, kitchen, and bar versions. Discover their potential as a functional and modern accent to interiors. Thanks to this unique technique of metal forming, Oskar Zięta’s PLOPP is light and durable. It meets the premises of sustainable development and production in three fundamental dimensions. First, it’s monomaterial, and therefore complies with the monomaterial thinking in its broad recyclable potential. OSKAR ZIĘTA is an architect, artist and process designer, and the CEO of Zieta Studio. He holds a doctorate from the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zürich, where he worked as a research assistant at the department of CAAD (Computer Aided Architectural Design). At ETH and as part of his own company, founded in 2010, he carried out research, development and implementation of steel stabilization technologies such as FIDU and 3+ Author of the iconic PLOPP stool (2008) and other inflated steel projects on the verge between sculpture and functional objects. He has received many awards, including: Design Preis Schweiz, 2008; Red Dot Design Award, 2008; Materialica Design Award, 2009; German Design Award, 2009; Audi Mentor Prize by A&W, 2011. NAWA was nominated for the prestigious European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award. Zięta collaborated with brands such as Audi, Architonic, Ballantine’s, Pirelli, Victoria & Albert Museum, among others Zięta began experimenting with site-specific sculptures designed with the use of the parametric design methodology in 2006 with his Seahorse. Nevertheless, it was not until 2010, when he designed his first larger-scale works: the formally different, but structurally familiar Architonic Concept Space and The Blow & Roll installation for the Victoria & Albert Museum. Since then, he has been constantly experimenting with scale and form, as well as with the social and aesthetic potential of steel sculptures. Oskar Zięta is also the creator of the highest sculpture in the public space in Poland, WIR (Galeria Północna, Warsaw 2017), as well as NAWA, a pavilion sculpture (Daliowa Island, Wrocław 2017), which contributed to the revitalization of the surrounding urban space. In 2019, NAWA was nominated for the prestigious European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award. Oskar Zięta’s creative activity has been repeatedly awarded with the most important awards in the field of design, including Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland Award, Red Dot and Audi Mentor Preis, as well as with a nomination for the Schweizer Design Preis. Zięta collaborated with brands such as Audi, Architonic, Ballantine’s, Pirelli, Victoria & Albert Museum, among others. His works are in the collections of the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich, the Pinakothek in Munich and the Pompidou Center in Paris. Oskar Zięta lives and works in Wroclaw, Poland.
