Conceptio Immaculata - Antique - Argent, Bois - 1800-1850 - Figure religieuse
Exceptional aged polychrome wooden figure of painted and gilded wood, eyes glass, halo silvered bronze (untested). Conceptio Immaculata (lat.), literally Immaculate Conception, in Finnish Immaculate Conception, sometimes also Immaculate Conception, is the dogma of the Catholic Church about the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. The Immaculate Conception is one of the four dogmas of Roman Catholic Mariology. Conceptio Immaculata is also one type of image of the Virgin Mary. The Immaculate Conception was often depicted in a heavenly setting. Mary has just been created and her spirit looks directly at God in the form of a young woman. Like the apocalyptic madonna, she also has the moon under her feet, the circle of the sun around her, and 12 stars surrounding her head. Sometimes there are billowing clouds, golden light and cherubs. In art, cherubs are often depicted with lilies or roses in their hands, which are associated with the Virgin Mary. The feast day of Mary's Immaculate Conception is celebrated in the Catholic Church on December 8, i.e. nine months before her birthday according to church tradition, which is September 8.
