Kurt Wendler - Art Department Rosenthal - "Semiramis" Writing Set (4 pcs) - ca 1925 - Ensemble de bureau - Porcelaine peinte à la main

Magnificent writing set made of several individual porcelain pieces, made at Rosenthal Art Department around 1925. The shape of this was created by Hans Küster, and features the Semiramis motif, a decoration created by Kurt Wendler, around 1923. The stylization of the motifs (palm trees) reveal an evident influence of the Futurism, common to so many other pieces of his. Hans Küster (1899-1963) was a modeler and sculptor. He worked for the German Rosenthal porcelain factory from 1913 to 1928, creating animals and grotesque figures, decorative and utilitarian tableware. Kurt Wendler (1893-1980) was a talented self-taught painter, photographer and graphic artist. Discovered by Philip Rosenthal, who appreciated his work, he ended up creating decorations for Rosenthal in 1919, where he worked regularly as a free artist from 1920 to 1930. Multifaceted artist, as a designer, he conceived, in addition to decorations for porcelain, rugs, wallpaper, patterns for fabrics and other projects. Pre-war porcelain creations aroused increasing interest and gained him fame. His unique decorations are easily recognizable and highly sought after by museums and collectors. The entire writing set is in excellent to good condition as some preservation interventions can be spotted to the bowls corners only, not quite professionally done, the colour lid of the inkwell possibly repainted and the lower point is missing its tip, otherwise NO chips, NO cracks and NO hairlines. Others are in excellent condition, marked and signed by painters as well and inkwell has impressed name of the creator H.Küster. Please see the pictures as they are part of description. Dimensions Inkwell Tray : L - 26,4 cm, H - 9 cm, W - 13 cm. Drying Pad : L - 11,8 cm, H - 6,2 cm, W - 5 cm. Pencil bowl: L - 24,2 cm, H - 2 cm, W - 6,8 cm.
