The distillery was founded in 1928 by Henri Marsolle in Saint-Rose, north of Basse-Terre (Guadeloupe). In 1933, he installed a mill there driven by a large wheel supplied with water by the main tributary of the Grande Rivière, connected to the distillery by a 3km canal, to crush the cane.
