The company was founded in 1930 by Rasmus Rudholt (1885-?), whose initials form the basis of the name ("two R"). Since 1925, Rudholt had dealt with radio and in 1929 had obtained a monopoly on the import of German radios. The factory was founded at Nørregade 35 in Copenhagen , from 1933 it was located at Howitzvej 11-13 in Frederiksberg , but in 1946-47 TO-R had a large factory built at Slotsherrensvej 111-113 in Vanløse , designed by Svenn Eske Kristensen and awarded by Copenhagen municipality .
