In 1975, approximately two decades after the novel's initial publication, Frazetta created six illustrations of characters from J.R.R. Tolkien's renowned fantasy tale. Specifically, this portfolio for "The Lord of the Rings" comprises six black and white plates, with this one being the fifth in the series.
➨ Fine Art Giclée on Favini Fine Art Paper format 45 x 32 cm.
Frazetta worked for various comic book companies, including Standard Comics and Magazine Enterprises. In the early 1950s, Frazetta transitioned to doing science fiction and fantasy art, particularly in collaboration with Al Williamson, producing exceptional work for EC Comics. Frazetta’s talent and versatility were further highlighted when he contributed to Al Capp’s “Li’l Abner” strip and worked on movie posters, notably “What’s New Pussycat?” His fame reached new heights with his iconic Conan the Barbarian series of paintings, leading to widespread recognition in the fantasy art genre for creating his characters such as Deth Dealer, who gained him recognition as one of the greatest illustration masters of all times.
