Désifa fa kivitelű faszobor, Elefántcsontpart, Baule kultúra, a Dimbokro régióból származik.
Leírás az eladótól
This Baule wisdom figure from the Dimbokro region in central Ivory Coast belongs to a group of male cult figures in which physical perfection, social authority, and spiritual maturity merge into an idealized image of humanity. Within Baule art, such figures often served as representations of revered ancestors, cult figures, or otherworldly blolo beings, embodying wisdom, dignity, and inner peace.
The complex hairstyle is particularly striking: a crown-like crest rises above the forehead and transitions into long braided plaits at the sides, while a third braid structures the back of the head. The diadem-like forehead ornament reinforces the impression of ceremonial grandeur. The alert, frontal gaze and slightly parted mouth lend the face a vibrant presence; the small vertical protrusions beside the mouth appear as stylized marks of cultic significance.
From the temples rises a magnificent beard, braided into three plaits beneath the chin - a motif symbolizing age, experience, and authority. The powerful chest, richly ornamented abdomen, and arrow-shaped markings on the upper arms combine physical strength with ritual significance. The hands, resting on the hips, lend the figure confidence and stability. Short, sturdy legs support the body on a finely chiseled base. Abrasion, cracks, and minor losses attest to a long history of ritual use and imbue the sculpture with its historical materiality.
