Leírás az eladótól
This Baule Justitia figure from the Dimbokro region in central Ivory Coast embodies ideals of authority, balance, and moral integrity, which within Baule society were closely linked to the legitimation of social order and the mediation between individual and communal responsibility. Such figures were often associated with ancestor worship, local shrines, or representative functions, serving as visible manifestations of wisdom and just judgment.
The seated pose on a stool, which in turn rests on a flat base, lends the figure a special dignity and stability. The disproportionately large hands, clasped in front of the abdomen, appear as a deliberate symbol of controlled power and considered decision-making. The towering mohawk with its meticulously crafted hair texture is set off from the forehead by an ornamented headband, emphasizing the elevated position of the depicted figure.
The face is defined by striking, arched eyebrows and prominent eyes, whose direct gaze conveys concentration and alertness. The closed mouth and the beard growing from the chin suggest maturity, self-control, and authority. The geometric box ornaments on the forehead, temples, neck, abdomen, and back create a visual unity and are reminiscent of traditional body decorations or symbols of social identity. The carefully sculpted musculature and the multi-rowed bracelets emphasize status and power. The lustrous, exceptionally well-preserved patina points to a long history of cultic appreciation.
