The Netherlands - by Lamberton Scammell - A plate to commemorate the birth of Princess Margriet Francisca of Oranje-Nassau
Commemorative Plate.
On the plate there is a Coat-of-Arms of the State of the Netherlands and maps of the Netherlands, the Dutch East Indies, The Netherlands Antilles and Surinam. The upper inscription reads: ‘Prinses Margriet Francisca van Oranje-Nassau 19 Januari 1943’. Below that is a poem composed by J.A. van Heurn: ‘Oranje-Kindje, Zoo ver van Huis, God geve U Drie Geschenken: Een Haantje, dat Hollands Victorie krait, Een Vaantje, dat Vrij voor Oranje waait, Twee Klompjes, om te staan op Holland’s Grond, Als ons Volk U juichend zijn Liefde verkondt. God geve die Drie Geschenken!’ The plate was designed on commission by the “Netherlands Aid Society”. On the reverse of the plate there are images of the Dutch flag with an orange Pennant, a church tower with a Rooster weather-vane and two clogs.
The plate is in mint condition - no hairline cracks either.
