The Guards Machine Gun Regiment ' was founded just after the 1st World War and disbanded in 1920. It was an amalgamation of 5 battalions.
The date "1916" on the emblem / badge refers to the formation of the Guards Machine Gun Battalion.
The badge is a five-pointed star (= 5 battalions) which is written in a circle "Quinque juncta Uno in 1916" with, in the centre, the monogram MGR (Machine Gun Regiment), above it a Royal Crown. The five bullets with a grenade between in between, rose, thistle, shamrock and leek and the motto translates as "five joined as one" referring to the five regiments of Foot Guards.
