PHOTO-PLAIT Paris Studiolette n°1A RARE 1930
Note, some leather is missing which was replaced with black paint and the support to hold the camera upright is missing. (see last 2 photos)
The Studiolette 1A is a well-built folding camera with an aluminium body, except for the sides which are made of wood.
The bellows are made of leather.
The special feature of the Studiolette 1A is that this camera allowed two kinds of sensitive surfaces to be used, without any additions
Obtaining six images in 6.5 x 11 cm format on 116-type roll film
Using metallic holders in 6.5 x 9 cm format
To pass from film to the plate holder, you just remove the removable ‘pressure plate’ from the interior of the back whose function is to ensure the film remains flat and to insert the loaded holder into the housing in the back of the device.
The focal distance scale is engraved on a plaque which can take two positions on its mount depending on whether films or plates are being used.
From the Photo-Plait sales catalogues, it seems that the Studiolette 1A cameras were equipped with wired frame viewfinders from 1931. That’s not the case of the camera shown on this page.
