WHAT IS 14 CARAT GOLD / GOLD-FILLED?
Gold-filled is a premium alloy of 14 carat gold combined with another type of metal (mostly copper). The gold is mechanically joint together with the base metal by use of heat and pressure. The thickness of the gold must be at least 1/20th of the total weight according to the American standard. So an alloy is not a layer that will easily wear off.
If gold-filled jewellery is used properly, it will last a lifetime (just like gold). Gold-filled offers durable colour and a nice and affordable quality that is tolerated well by people who are allergic to metals other than gold. Gold-filled is, however, more expensive than other materials as it contains a higher gold content.
