This is a linen table linen with 8 napkins measuring 65cm x 80cm . The back ground of the damask is quite simple, but it is the napkins which are winning the day so to speak. The initials H.D. are very well embroidered in high relief and follow, as often was the case in the early 20th Century, the English style of lettering. It always makes for a perfect finish and particularly on the napkins. The French families , at the time, were proud to show off their dining room table when they invited friends and family for lunch or dinner. Only the best of linen would come out of the armoires. The initials on the table linen could be simple red cross-stitch for the poorest families, or beautiful elegant letters embroidered with dotted embossing as is the sae with this table linen. The initials on this table linen are sitting in a rectangular piece framed with a Greek Key border. The linen is scattered with what look like small leaves to fill out the empty white spaces.
