In 1886, with the help of his seven sons and two daughters, William Grant set out to fulfil a lifelong ambition.
Together they began building his distillery by hand, and, on Christmas day 1887 the finst drop flowed from the copper stills.
William Grant named it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for the Valley of the Deer.
Over 120 years later, Glenfiddich is still distilled in unusually small copper pot stills that exactly match the shape and size of the original stills. They are lovingly tended by our dedicated in house coppersmith who ensures that every bump and dent is reproduced. This is one of the many factors that ensure the consistent and exceptional quality of our whiskies and makes Glenfiddich the World's most awarded single malt Scotch whisky.
