Letitia Elizabeth Landon - Drawing Room Scrap Book 1835 & 1836 - 1835-1836

Two antique illustrated books, Drawing Room Scrap Book 1835 & 1836. Both full of illustrations and poems, fascinating glimpses into a world of almost two centuries ago. Two books, Drawing Room Scrap Book 1835 & 1836 with Poetical Illustrations by L.E.L. (Letitia Elizabeth Landon). Letitia Elizabeth Landon was editor of this annual gift book from 1832 until her death in 1838, at which time the 1839 volume had already been prepared. These were essentially multi-media productions that presented around forty engraved plates to which Miss Landon provided the majority of what she termed ‘poetical illustrations’, a form in which she had already considerable experience in other gift books. Letitia Elizabeth Landon was an English poet and novelist of the Victorian era, spanning romanticism and Victorian age writings. This series of books combine beautiful poetry with stunning printed plates. Both are cloth hardback with elaborate embossed design - the central element being a Phoenix in a nest of flames. Covers are blue and brown, faded with bumping and wear. Text in the 1835 edition is generally nice and clean with some spotting in places, the 1836 edition has watermarks to the bottom right of most pages. Gilt tooled spines. Both books hardback, cloth covers.
