Richard Smith (born October 27, 1931 in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, April 15, 2016 in Patchogue, Long Island) was a British painter. He was considered an important representative of color field painting.
From 1948 to 1950 he studied at the Luton School of Art in London. From 1950 to 1952, he served at the Royal Air Force in Hong Kong. From 1952 to 1954 he continued his art studies at St. Alban's School of Art. From 1954 to 1957 he studied at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1954 he participated in the exhibitions of Young Contemporaries in the RBA Galleries in London.
