【Product details】

This exquisite tray, crafted by the renowned Kyoto lacquerware house Heian Zohiko, established in 1661, embodies the elegance and craftsmanship of traditional Japanese lacquerware. The tray's striking gourd-shaped design is adorned with a serene mountain scape, realized through Maki-e and Nashiji lacquer techniques.

Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique where gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to produce intricate designs. Nashiji employs a similar method, using gold or silver flecks to achieve a pear skin-like texture, offering a unique shimmer and depth to the surface.

The gourd in Japanese culture is often associated with good luck and prosperity, symbolizing the harnessing of evil spirits. The long, rectangular tray is perfect for display or use in traditional tea ceremonies, adding a touch of historical artistry to any collection.

Enclosed in its original wooden box, which bears Zohiko's signature and the seal, the tray shows minor signs of wear and fine scratches consistent with age, yet remains in good condition. Please refer to the photographs for a detailed inspection.
