A beautiful and very rare 19th century Tinsel foil painting with birds and butterflys amongst flowers and trees. This amazing piece of folk art was made judging by the quality and colors in the early 19th century in France.
In the first half of the 19th century the art was brought to the United States.
In 2012/2013, the American folk art museum held an exhibit on this art form.
Tinsel paintings are reverse paintings on glass with smooth or crumpled metallic foil applied behind translucent and transparent areas. In the first half of the 19th century, tinsel painting was taught to young woman whose parents were dedicated to providing refined education for their daughters and paid for such special classes.
In perfect condition
The art-piece itself is ca 25x35 cm
These pieces of woman art very beautiful for the collector but also for a museum.
The piece is framed to protect it. You can contact a frame specialist to frame it for you.
