Very nice gramophone ‘Chantal’ in a large, beautiful oak cabinet.
"ETABLISSEMENTS CHANTAL" was a Belgian manufacturer of gramophones and record labels in the 1920s and 1930s; based in Ghent (https://www.gent-geprent.com/bijzondere-gebouwen/gebouwen-c/compagnie-chantal).
Extra nice with this gramophone: the Diaphragm head can be reversed for playing Pahté records (provided using a sapphire or diamond needle).
There is an internal wooden horn. This gives a warm sound that sounds less shrill than brass horns.
The gramophone has a nice patina and is nicely aged.
Serial number cabinet (under the turntable): '557', serial number gramophone 'Chantal': ‘588374’.
The oak cabinet was renovated in 2020 by a furniture maker of antique furniture. The oak cabinet has been treated with a double protective layer of quality products from Sikkens (Akzo Nobel). No woodworm, wood rot or fungus has been detected. The current colour of the oak is also the original colour and has a beautiful matte shine.
The gramophone interior has been checked and lubricated. The gramophone works perfectly.
The original steel castors under the cabinet have a protective anti-rust layer and have been lubricated.
The cost of the renovation and the technical review in 2020 was €175.
Dimensions: Height 113 cm x width 52 cm x depth 38.5 cm
Weight: 30 Kg.
'Due to the size, weight and vulnerability of the gramophone, it will not be shipped, but can be picked up from the seller. After agreement with the buyer about the transport cost, the seller can possibly bring the gramophone up to 150 km around Belgian Limburg.'
