A very fine old 4/4 violin, labeled Joseph Rocca fecit fecit premiato di Medaglle alle Espisizioni di torino, genova, londra e Parigi Taurini anno Domini 1851 IHS. The instrument is in ready to play condition with tears, wears, small repairs to borders and small repaired crack to a-peg-hole, new master made bridge, new boxwood set up and new strings. The violin has an excellent straight medium grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of softly flamed maple with matched sides, neck and scroll. Rich golden amber varnish shows an amazing wooden choice. The whole length of the violin is 587 mm and the back 358 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 170 mm; middle bouts: 115 mm; lower bouts: 210 mm. The sound is very deep, rich and powerful.
