Sumerian Clay Tablet With Cuneiform Script
Circa 3rd millennium BC
This clay tablet fragment features several lines of cuneiform script on both faces.
Cuneiform script was a system of writing used in ancient Mesopotamia, particularly in Sumer, dating back to the late 4th millennium BC. It is considered one of the earliest known forms of writing and was impressed onto clay tablets using wedge-shaped stylus marks. The intricate nature of cuneiform allowed it to capture a diverse range of information from administrative records to literary texts.
