French vintage "Videotex" terminal, Minitel 1, built by the company "La Radiotechnique" in 1982. Working with some minor defects easilly correctible by any amateur of electronics restoration: - Some bad contacts already corrected (the cathodic ray tube in particular, that is functionnal after an unplug/replug). - The keys were all working well at first power on, but yet the keys A, Q, N, H, "correction" and backline ("RC") failed to work after reassembly. The problem does NOT come from keypad itself (contacts tested) but more probably from a bad contact in the wires. - The power on button jams a little bit but works if treated correctly. - The phone cable has some scratches but the wires inside are intact. The Minitel 1 is the first model distributed at the beginning of Minitel history, and its 80's look is a pure expression of this era's computers design. It was followed by many more models, this one is of the rarest working pieces of this first model. This piece of history was the beginning of a french attempt to compete with the uprising Internet, with light terminals connecting directly to the phone network by the service named "Teletel" on the "Transpac" vnetwork, in order to get infos (alternative to paper phone books, train reservations...), to chat or to buy online. The Minitel history is also connected to the beginning of the "pink messengers" and dating sites in France. It was hacked by many as a Linux terminal. The Minitel was retired from service after 30 years of evolutions, in 2012. This lot has its place in any good computer museum or private collection, and would be very happy to be bought by someone who would be kind to restore it... Weight: 4600g (approx.)
