Jean-Simon PEYNAUD was born in 1869 in Bordeaux. He worked for the Bordelaise Vieillard pottery works, very well known in the Girondins, and produced unusual pieces but also pieces in the style of Amédée de Caranza with whom he probably shared workshops.
In the Art Nouveau period, he put his artistic sense to serve very beautiful glass pieces in the spirit of the Nancy School. He produced vases, bowls, single flower vases, bottles, boxes, sweet bowls, lamp stands in opalescent, frosted and acid-etched glass and painted decors with multicoloured flowers, fruit or depicting landscapes or scenes from daily life. There is little written about this artist, but he is occasionally found in auction houses or online. His company was on 44, rue Héron in Bordeaux and was very active between 1910 and 1935.
Without the elegance and technique of the greatest glassmakers of his time, Simon Peynard is a rare artist to be discovered. He died in 1952.
