Weapons; Short sword 'Ecole de Mars' - 1794
Short sword 'Glaive' for graduates of the 'Ecole de Mars', designed by the famous painter Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825). A typical design much like the classicalist style of the Roman sword (Gladius).
The solid brass hilt is scaled and shows signs of gilding, which also counts for the blade (partially of brass and felt). Very beautifully decorated in relief. A double-edged sword.
Length 66.5 cm.
In very good condition, despite its age. Felt is slightly damaged, while the sword furthermore shows some signs of ageing. Marvellous specimen in excellent condition.
