Extra Notes
Frantisek Czapek (born 1811) was a highly skilled watchmaker. In 1839 he set up a business with Anton de Patek that was named "Patek, Czapek & Cie" the company was disbanded in 1845. Patek, of course, went on to found Patek, Philippe & Co. which remains arguably the world's most coveted brand at auction and amongst collectors. After the dissolution of the Patek, Czapek brand, Czapek set up his own company in direct competition to Patek. In 1854 Czapek set up a distribution centre in Warsaw, the company was later liquidated in 1869. The context of Czapek's association with Patek, and becuase of the watchmaker's quality, his pieces are collectible.
