Ettore Sottsass for Olivetti - Large ashtray from the Synthesis series
Large ashtray belonging to the Olivetti Synthesis desk set by Ettore Sottsass in 1972 for Olivetti, made from grey melamine (heat-resistant material).
The item is perfect except for a small crack (almost invisible) on one of the upper corners, shown in the photo. In reality, the item is new, never used and comes with its original box.
After creating the Synthesis series, the designer noted:
'I have tried my best to capture the possible terms of a new vitality and to take in the shapes and the symbols that may represent the multiplication of images of the century and the passage from intellectual organisations to some sort of pure life energy' (Ettore Sottsass)
