A particularly large and heavy sculpture depicting a lion and lioness on a rock.
The lion is in a stately pose next to his lying lioness, a beautiful scene.
The work is very detailed and made true-to-life made of cold-painted bronze.
It is made by the famous Franz Bergmann (1861-1936) who was known for his Viennese bronze sculptures.
Details:
Length: 47 cm.
Height: 38 cm.
Depth: 28 cm
Weight: 27.2 kg.
Both animals are signed 'Nam Greb' that is backwards for Bergman. It also has a 'B' in a vase on the bottom of the belly of the standing lion (hard to read).
It has minor flaws and is in good condition, the pictures speak for themselves.
An extremely rare Viennese bronze sculpture that according to the previous owner then Queen Wilhelmina gave to a colonel from the Dutch army in around 1938.
