The frame is slightly damaged. Jan Harm Oostendorp began to draw when he was just sixth years old. As first mate in merchant shipping, he travelled the world. He lived in the Dutch East Indies and Australia, on Ameland, in Haren and in Norg. Haren he lived on the Sassenhein lake. He had to leave this place when the new highway - the A 28 - was built. Sassenhein has been painted in many varieties by Oostendorp. The lake has been depicted in oil paint, in his fascinating watercolour technique and inscription (a lot in pastel). His great predilection went out to the landscape with beautiful skies and water landscape. In addition, his horses and bird scenes are also famous. Oostendorp was taught by J Mulder, H F Boot and L..W.R. Wenckebach.
