The ceramics factory 'Florio' was founded by the owner Ignazio Florio in Palermo in 1882, with the objective of producing dinnerware to be used on the fleet of cruise ships owned by the family.
In 1900 the company displayed it's pieces at the Palermo Exhibition.
From the early 1900s the factory collaborated with the great Italian, Liberty architect, Ernesto Basile.
Around the mid 1930s the role of artistic director was entrusted to Giovanni Morelli the ceramicist from Ravenna. At the end of the 1920s Florio was taken over by Richard-Ginori but a few years later it reappeared under the name 'S.A. Siciliana Ceramica', the brand mark, which isn't always present, consists of a graphic of a seahorse.
