Weathered spelter group, representing the birth of Pegasus, signed E Picault and with the inscription ‘Salon des Beaux-Arts 1888’.
There is a stamp of the founder, ‘Fabrication française, Paris’, on the back of the sculpture, Made in France, representing a flame in a crucible.
Sculpture from late 19th/early 20th century.
According to mythology, Perseus had just cut off Medusa's head, and thus gave birth to Pegasus.
It is this moment the French sculptor wanted to represent with this beautiful bronze of nice quality. Emile Picault is famous for his allegorical subjects, warriors or mythological heroes.
