Jan Sluijters (s-Hertogenbosch 1881-1957 Amsterdam) Sluijters' work is considered to be of great importance for Dutch art history. He played a leading role in the young Avant Garde movement, of which artists such as Piet Mondrian and Leo Gestel were also part. From his academy days until shortly after the First World War, Sluijters experimented frequently and adopted styles such as Luminism, Fauvism, Cubism and Expressionism. He then gained fame as a painter of portraits, nudes, floral still lifes and homely scenes in a moderate expressionist style. The work of art on offer has been exhibited during a solo exhibition of the work of Jan Sluijters in the municipal museum of The Hague. Mr. Knuttel was the one who took and reviewed the pieces at the time. The work of art comes from a private collection. The family of the contributor was closely linked to the family of the artist Jan Sluijters. The artwork is in good condition and framed by a professional framer.
