Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810-1879) - Sulpture, Skotsk jæger, jagthund og trofæ (1) - Realist - Bronze (patineret) - 19. århundrede
Very beautiful large sculpture group of Scottish hunter, hunting dog and a fox as hunting trophy.
Sparkling gold-bronze patina, first period.
Mêne was born on 2 March 1810 in Paris, France. In 1837 he cast his bronze sculptures in his own foundry.
Mêne produced a number of animal sculptures, mainly from pets, including horses, cows and bulls, sheep and goats that were in vogue during the Second Empire.
His work was shown for the first time in London by Ernest Gambart in 1849. Mêne specialised in small bronze figures, which explains why none of his works exist as public sculpture. The quality of these works is high, similar to Barye's. It is considered the lost wax casting expert of his time. The lost wax casting method is also called the cire perdue method.
